INDIO,CA (LAELEMENTS) 4/26/2016 – “Thank you all so much, this is a dream of mine so thank you,” says Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival headliner, Ellie Goulding, addressing the crowd attending the opening night of Weekend Two on Friday, April 22.
Goulding’s performance drew a multitude of festivalgoers from around the world that lined up hours in advance to get front row seats for the show. Her much anticipated appearance has been talked about since the release of the Coachella lineup back in January 4th of this year. This wildly popular festival has emerged as the premiere music event of the year and takes place every April at the Empire Polo Club in Indio California with tickets often selling out the day they are released.
Goulding took the stage sporting an all-black leather two-piece outfit with high waisted shorts and black boots, contrasting sharply with the all white Ashton Michael ensemble she wore on Weekend One. She opened the show with “Aftertaste”, a song from her latest album; Delirium released November of last year. What followed was an emotional tribute to Prince with Goulding singing the first lines of his classic, “When Doves Cry” and then transitioning into her song, “Something in the Way You Move” in honor of his passing on Thursday. She then performed “Love Me Like You Do”, the acclaimed single she wrote with DJ Calvin Harris who also performed at the festival on Sunday. The energetic audience sang alone to the chorus while Goulding danced onstage. It was a wild and adoring crowd that shouted their praises as the singer started her next song, “Burn”. There was no doubt that this was one of the most exciting concerts of the night at Coachella. Goulding kept the audience pumped with her signature hit, “Lights” showing off her unique voice in a consummate live performance. To add to the already incredible atmosphere of the moment, a laser show synched to the beat of the song with lights streaming into the dark sky above the audience.
Before performing her final song of Coachella 2016, Goulding bid a heartfelt farewell to the audience. “This is my last song. I love you guys so much. Thank you. I can’t see you all because it’s so dark but I wish I could see you all.” She then closed the show with “Anything Could Happen,” one of her most popular songs from her second album, Halcyon Days, which was released in 2013. The crowd sang along to the entire song, which was part of an amazing set full of hits and part of a night to always remember.
