<p>HOLLYWOOD, CA (LA ELEMENTS) 3/30/2016 &#8211; Day three of Art Heart’s Fashion was the place to be if you wanted to see designs that were glamorous, elegant, sultry even, as Walter Mendez presented his collection for Fall/Winter 2016.  Held on March 16 at the Taglyan Complex in Hollywood, assembled guests were  treated to a show that impressed.</p>
<p>Incorporating  silhouettes that flattered the female form to perfection, the statuesque models in Mendez’s show glided down the runway in gowns sporting regal trumpet trains, alluring mermaid trains and evening attire with capes and the occasional high-low hems here and there. Embellishments such as crystal beading and lace were utilized to enhance the designs beautifully without going over the top. All of these fashion elements, along with a Spanish flair that seemed to flow through much of this line, came together to make for one of the more memorable shows during any LA Fashion Week.</p>
<p>And if all of that wasn’t enough, Mendez presented a collection within a collection that earned an overwhelming standing ovation from the assembled crowd. One that marks a collaboration with business partner Ryan Patros.  That particular collection will be the focus of a future report.</p>
<p>We spoke with Mendez on the red carpet after his show and gained insight into the philosophy of a man who although still in his twenties, creates designs that are already being worn by some of the biggest names in entertainment such as Jennifer Lopez, Selena Gomez just to name a few.</p>

<p><strong>Have you always wanted to be a fashion designer?</strong></p>
<p>The real answer is no because I didn’t realize what design was. Growing up to me it was just sort of like, ‘I like fashion’ well, everybody likes fashion so it was almost like second nature to me. It wasn’t until I discovered a sewing machine that it all came together.</p>
<p><strong>I know you graduated from Cal State Long Beach, as did Phillip Lim. What is it about that university that is turning out such acclaimed designers?</strong></p>
<p>Cal State Long Beach has a great design program and I’m really proud to be an alumnus from there. I just have to say, that not only do they have a good program but what is also important is dedication and work.</p>
<p><strong>You’ve dressed so many famous ladies, who would be on your list to dress whom you haven’t dressed yet?</strong></p>
<p>That’s a tough one. There are multiple celebrities that we would love to dress! (after a quick consult with business partner Ryan Patros the answer is revealed) Beyonce and Shakira.</p>
<p><strong>For someone who is just starting out in fashion, what advice would you give them in terms of how important it is to be formally educated in fashion?</strong></p>
<p>Well, it’s always very tricky when you speak in terms of formally educated because a lot of people just have it. Having technical training does help you but like anything in life, it’s all about experience and for anybody starting out, I would have to say, get out there. Do an internship. Start working on your collection. No matter how fast you’re moving, as long as you don’t stop moving, then you’ll get exactly where you want to be.</p>
<p><strong>We really enjoyed the show. Thank you for your time.</strong></p>
<p>Thank you for attending.</p>

<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>HOLLYWOOD, CA (LA ELEMENTS) 3/23/2016- We caught up with Merline Labisierre on day three of the much anticipated Art Hearts Fashion segment of LA Fashion Week, held on March 16 at the Taglyan Complex in Hollywood. Amidst the backstage joyful chaos that erupts when a designer is on the verge of showing their latest collection on the runway, we were able to gain insight into the inspiration and technique that went into creating this particular line. By the end of the night a memorable fashion show was presented. One that showcased designs of a powerful and in some cases eclectic structure best described as corporate chic.</p>
<p><a href="https://laelements.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/Merline-Labisierre-White-and-Navy.jpg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone wp-image-1289 size-medium" src="https://laelements.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/Merline-Labisierre-White-and-Navy-299x450.jpg" alt="Art Hearts Fashion Fall/Winter 2016 Day 3" width="299" height="450" srcset="https://laelements.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/Merline-Labisierre-White-and-Navy-299x450.jpg 299w, https://laelements.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/Merline-Labisierre-White-and-Navy.jpg 1996w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 299px) 100vw, 299px" /></a></p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p><strong>Who do you design for? Who is your muse?</strong></p>
<p>“I design for the creative woman who works in the business world because I am that creative woman who works in the business world.”</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p><strong>What were some of the questions you asked yourself while designing this line that made it helpful for you to fulfill your vision of a clothing line for made especially for the creative businesswoman?</strong></p>
<p>What do we wear when we go from work to a cocktail party? What do we wear when we’re just hanging out, going to the coffee shop to meet a client?</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p><strong>What was the inspiration for the silhouettes?</strong></p>
<p>What I did with this collection is on some of the silhouettes and on some of the designs that you will see, I went back home, my family’s from Haiti, and I did a satellite view of the country. When you see the cutouts of some of the garments, it’s from the island map. Also, my background is in architecture so I see lines and shapes. That’s how my brain was thinking for this collection.</p>
<p><a href="https://laelements.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/Merline-Labisierre-Black-and-Gray-222.jpg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone wp-image-1291 size-medium" src="https://laelements.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/Merline-Labisierre-Black-and-Gray-222-311x450.jpg" alt="Art Hearts Fashion Fall Winter/2016 Day 3" width="311" height="450" /></a><a href="https://laelements.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/Merline-Labisierre-Elongated-Shell.jpg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone wp-image-1292 size-medium" src="https://laelements.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/Merline-Labisierre-Elongated-Shell-300x450.jpg" alt="Art Hearts Fashion Fall/Winter 2016 Day 3" width="300" height="450" srcset="https://laelements.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/Merline-Labisierre-Elongated-Shell-300x450.jpg 300w, https://laelements.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/Merline-Labisierre-Elongated-Shell.jpg 2002w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px" /></a></p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p><strong>How important is comfort in this collection?</strong></p>
<p>I wanted this line to look very cute but I also wanted it to be comfortable. In this collection I use a lot of support-wear material, a lot of neoprene, neoprene mesh, so I’m kind of doing that balance, which is what I wanted for this collection. Sometimes as a creative person I’ll think outside the box but I wanted to make this line practical as well.</p>
<p><strong>We first came to know you from the last season of Project Runway. What has changed about you since the show?</strong></p>
<p>If you look at my portfolio, the Project Runway portfolio that I submitted and my collection now, it’s like day and night. I’ve grown before the show, during the show and even now, I’m still growing. I think I gotten more practical and when I say practical, I mean that I used to design very conceptually and then put it on the mannequin. This is the first time I’m actually fitting it to the mannequin, which is a big difference. Also, I re-branded my name. My clothing before was Provoke Style so after Project Runway, everyone’s like, ‘Who’s Provoke Style?’ so now my brand is just <a href="http://www.merlinelabissiere.com/" target="_blank">Merline Labisierre</a>.</p>

<p>HOLLYWOOD, (LA Elements) 10/23/2015- “Sue’s not just implementing beauty, magic and transformation in all of her gowns that she designs”, says British action film star Max Ryan in his formal introduction of Sue Wong at the opening night of LA Fashion Week. “She lives her own mantra every second of every day and touches the world with her alchemy of beauty and self-realization.”</p>
<p>Art Hearts Fashion presented Alchemy and Masquerade, Sue Wong’s Spring/Summer 2016 collection at the Taglyan Complex on October 5, 2015. This is the second time that Art Hearts Fashion presented Wong’s latest collection and once again, this event was standing room only.</p>
<p>After Ryan’s introduction, Wong took to the runway to receive a plaque and proclamation from the California State Legislature recognizing her ‘excellence in fashion and design’. A special recognition award from Prince Waldemar (a great-grandson of King Frederick Vlll of Denmark) and his spouse, Princess Antonia, was also presented to Sue Wong by Prince Waldemar himself. “Dear Sue, I am so happy that I can give you in the name of my family Shaumberg-Lippe this award for your fantastic work. I have met many queens in Denmark, in Europe, because I am related to them, but you are the most fantastic fashion queen and that is why I am very happy to give you this award.”</p>
<p>Following the presentation of both awards was a dance performance by Prince Waldemar and Princess Antonia’s son, Prince Mario Max Shaumberg Lippe. Set to the music of Phantom of the Opera by Harajuku, the prelude to Alchemy &amp; Magic received an overwhelming and enthusiastic welcome from the capacity crowd.</p>

<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>There were 79 dresses that cascaded down the runway in Alchemy &amp; Masquerade, a show with nine distinctive sectors. Showcased throughout this extravaganza were designs emblematic of Wong’s signature style and designs entering into the realm of the fantastical.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>Alchemy</p>
<p>The music from Lesiem may have been electronica/new age but the fashion was heavy metal. From spiky helmets and shoulder accouterments on strapless flowing gowns to sheath dresses with geometric motifs glimmering with a pewter tone, these were among the standouts in this segment.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>

<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>Etherea</p>
<p>Flowing chiffon, intricate beadwork, ultra-feminine and intrinsically the embodiment of a Sue Wong design.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p><a href="https://laelements.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/Candice_Etheria_ED.JPGFinal.jpg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-medium wp-image-1049" src="https://laelements.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/Candice_Etheria_ED.JPGFinal-266x400.jpg" alt="Design from Etheria section of Alchemy &amp; Masquerade" width="266" height="400" srcset="https://laelements.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/Candice_Etheria_ED.JPGFinal-266x400.jpg 266w, https://laelements.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/Candice_Etheria_ED.JPGFinal.jpg 440w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 266px) 100vw, 266px" /></a></p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>Arcana</p>
<p>The tea length dress with pleated skirt and lace overlay and full-length dress with tiered skirt were crowd favorites.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p><a href="https://laelements.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/JessicaArcanaFinal-10.jpg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-medium wp-image-1080" src="https://laelements.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/JessicaArcanaFinal-10-266x400.jpg" alt="Arcana LA Fashion Week" width="266" height="400" srcset="https://laelements.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/JessicaArcanaFinal-10-266x400.jpg 266w, https://laelements.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/JessicaArcanaFinal-10-1030x1548.jpg 1030w, https://laelements.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/JessicaArcanaFinal-10.jpg 1363w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 266px) 100vw, 266px" /></a><a href="https://laelements.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/MichelleArcanaFinal-10.jpg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-medium wp-image-1081" src="https://laelements.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/MichelleArcanaFinal-10-266x400.jpg" alt="Arcana LA Fashion Week" width="266" height="400" srcset="https://laelements.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/MichelleArcanaFinal-10-266x400.jpg 266w, https://laelements.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/MichelleArcanaFinal-10-1030x1548.jpg 1030w, https://laelements.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/MichelleArcanaFinal-10.jpg 1363w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 266px) 100vw, 266px" /></a></p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>Chrysalis</p>
<p>Full-length gowns in colors of sand, taupe and champagne dominated the Chrysalis segment of Alchemy &amp; Masquerade</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p><a href="https://laelements.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/MilenaChrusalisFinal-10.jpg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-medium wp-image-1082" src="https://laelements.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/MilenaChrusalisFinal-10-266x400.jpg" alt="Chrysalis Sue Wong LA Elements" width="266" height="400" srcset="https://laelements.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/MilenaChrusalisFinal-10-266x400.jpg 266w, https://laelements.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/MilenaChrusalisFinal-10-1030x1548.jpg 1030w, https://laelements.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/MilenaChrusalisFinal-10.jpg 1363w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 266px) 100vw, 266px" /></a></p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>Duality</p>
<p>The favorable response for this design which utilized a geometric motif, was no optical illusion.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p><a href="https://laelements.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/DualityFinal-101.jpg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-medium wp-image-1084" src="https://laelements.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/DualityFinal-101-266x400.jpg" alt="Duality" width="266" height="400" srcset="https://laelements.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/DualityFinal-101-266x400.jpg 266w, https://laelements.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/DualityFinal-101-1030x1548.jpg 1030w, https://laelements.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/DualityFinal-101.jpg 1363w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 266px) 100vw, 266px" /></a></p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>Metamorphosis</p>
<p>The most vibrant portion of Alchemy &amp; Masquerade saw a rainbow palette of colors.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p><a href="https://laelements.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/Amanda_Metamorphisis_Ed.JPGFinal.jpg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-medium wp-image-1057" src="https://laelements.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/Amanda_Metamorphisis_Ed.JPGFinal-266x400.jpg" alt="&quot;Metamorphosis&quot;" width="266" height="400" srcset="https://laelements.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/Amanda_Metamorphisis_Ed.JPGFinal-266x400.jpg 266w, https://laelements.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/Amanda_Metamorphisis_Ed.JPGFinal.jpg 440w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 266px) 100vw, 266px" /></a><a href="https://laelements.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/MarketaMetamorphosisFinal-10.jpg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-medium wp-image-1085" src="https://laelements.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/MarketaMetamorphosisFinal-10-266x400.jpg" alt="Metamorphosis LA Fashion Week" width="266" height="400" srcset="https://laelements.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/MarketaMetamorphosisFinal-10-266x400.jpg 266w, https://laelements.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/MarketaMetamorphosisFinal-10-1030x1548.jpg 1030w, https://laelements.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/MarketaMetamorphosisFinal-10.jpg 1363w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 266px) 100vw, 266px" /></a></p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>Kaleidoscope</p>
<p>Full-length gown, plunging illusion neckline and back and jet bead detailing, this was yet another crowd favorite.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p><a href="https://laelements.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/Candice_Kaleidescopt_Ed.JPGFinal.jpg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-medium wp-image-1061" src="https://laelements.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/Candice_Kaleidescopt_Ed.JPGFinal-266x400.jpg" alt="Kaleidoscope from LA Fashion Week" width="266" height="400" srcset="https://laelements.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/Candice_Kaleidescopt_Ed.JPGFinal-266x400.jpg 266w, https://laelements.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/Candice_Kaleidescopt_Ed.JPGFinal.jpg 440w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 266px) 100vw, 266px" /></a></p>
<p>Faustus</p>
<p>Inspired by the German legend of the man who sold his soul to darkness in exchange for knowledge and pleasure, not surprising that this segment shone a spotlight on designs that had the essence of the preternatural.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p><a href="https://laelements.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/MilenaFaustusFinal-4.jpg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-medium wp-image-1063" src="https://laelements.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/MilenaFaustusFinal-4-266x400.jpg" alt="Faustus LA Fashion Week" width="266" height="400" srcset="https://laelements.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/MilenaFaustusFinal-4-266x400.jpg 266w, https://laelements.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/MilenaFaustusFinal-4-1030x1548.jpg 1030w, https://laelements.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/MilenaFaustusFinal-4.jpg 1363w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 266px) 100vw, 266px" /></a><a href="https://laelements.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/Yuliya_Faustus_Ed.Final_.jpg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-medium wp-image-1088" src="https://laelements.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/Yuliya_Faustus_Ed.Final_-266x400.jpg" alt="Faustus" width="266" height="400" srcset="https://laelements.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/Yuliya_Faustus_Ed.Final_-266x400.jpg 266w, https://laelements.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/Yuliya_Faustus_Ed.Final_.jpg 440w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 266px) 100vw, 266px" /></a></p>
<p><a href="https://laelements.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/Alizee_Faustus_ED.JPGFFinal1.jpg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-medium wp-image-1064" src="https://laelements.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/Alizee_Faustus_ED.JPGFFinal1-266x400.jpg" alt="Faustus LA Fashion Week" width="266" height="400" srcset="https://laelements.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/Alizee_Faustus_ED.JPGFFinal1-266x400.jpg 266w, https://laelements.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/Alizee_Faustus_ED.JPGFFinal1.jpg 440w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 266px) 100vw, 266px" /></a><a href="https://laelements.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/SamanthaFaustusFinal-10.jpg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-medium wp-image-1087" src="https://laelements.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/SamanthaFaustusFinal-10-266x400.jpg" alt="Faustus LA Elements" width="266" height="400" srcset="https://laelements.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/SamanthaFaustusFinal-10-266x400.jpg 266w, https://laelements.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/SamanthaFaustusFinal-10-1030x1548.jpg 1030w, https://laelements.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/SamanthaFaustusFinal-10.jpg 1363w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 266px) 100vw, 266px" /></a></p>
<p>Transformation</p>
<p>Whites and ivories were the dominant hue in the last segment of Alchemy &amp; Magic. Generous use of tulle and lace could be seen on several designs.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p><a href="https://laelements.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/MarketTransformationFinal-10.jpg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-medium wp-image-1089" src="https://laelements.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/MarketTransformationFinal-10-266x400.jpg" alt="Transformation" width="266" height="400" srcset="https://laelements.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/MarketTransformationFinal-10-266x400.jpg 266w, https://laelements.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/MarketTransformationFinal-10-1030x1548.jpg 1030w, https://laelements.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/MarketTransformationFinal-10.jpg 1363w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 266px) 100vw, 266px" /></a></p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>Following the final portion of Alchemy &amp; Masquerade was a thundering performance of The Phantom of the Opera by Michael Peer.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p><a href="https://laelements.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/Michael-PeerFinal-10.jpg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-medium wp-image-1090" src="https://laelements.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/Michael-PeerFinal-10-400x266.jpg" alt="Michael Peer" width="400" height="266" srcset="https://laelements.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/Michael-PeerFinal-10-400x266.jpg 400w, https://laelements.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/Michael-PeerFinal-10-1030x685.jpg 1030w, https://laelements.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/Michael-PeerFinal-10.jpg 2048w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px" /></a></p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>The finale of the first night of LA Fashion Week concluded with Wong taking to the runway surrounded by her models, Prince Waldemar and Prince Mario Max Shaumberg Lippe.  Once again, Wong had created the most talked about show of LA Fashion Week.</p>
