BEVERLY HILLS, CA (LA ELEMENTS) 1/15/2020 – The 7th Annual Gold Meets Golden brought together Hollywood’s elite and some of the best athletes from around the world for a special brunch at the Virginia Robinson Gardens on Saturday, January 4th. Actress Nicole Kidman hosted this event, which serves to celebrate the Golden Globes Awards weekend and wish the best of luck to the athletes of the Olympic and Paralympic Games Tokyo 2020.
Gold Meets Golden 2020 was presented by The Coca-Cola Company, the longest continuous corporate partner of the Olympic Games. This event benefits Angel City Sports, a Los Angeles organization that fosters young athletes with disabilities with the resources, coaching and equipment they need to train as future adaptive Paralympic hopefuls.

The festivities kicked off with Globe-nominated Cynthia Erivo (The Color Purple / Harriet) enchanting the crowd with an incredible performance of John Lennon’s “Imagine.” Golden Globes nominee Taron Egerton with the help of Sylvester Stallone’s daughter, actress Sistine Stallone, presented the Team USA Bobsled team with Sochi 2014 medals that they had recently upgraded to due to the Russian doping scandal.
The star-studded event was full of celebrity sightings such as:
- Australian and Olympic Gold Medalist swimmer Ian Thorpe chatting with fellow Aussies Nicole Kidman about Australia being threatened by the unprecedented fires, and Naomi Watts about the upcoming Olympics and hoping Australia can win a medal in Tokyo.
- Jon Voight spent over an hour chatting with every Olympian he encountered at Gold Meets Golden.
- American model, actor, and Deaf activist Nyle DiMarco also enjoyed teaching Olympic Saber Fencer Monica Aksamit phrases in American Sign Language.
Olympic gymnast Aly Raisman catches up with her idols, Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds.
