LOS ANGELES, CA (LA ELEMENTS) 2/11/2024 – BMI kicked off Grammy week with two major events. On January 31, a celebration of their family of 2024 GRAMMY nominees, took place in the Los Angeles office of BMI. The intimate gathering was attended by Edgar Barrera, “Weird” Al Yankovic, BMi ICON Anna Barbara, Jean and Marcus Baylor of The Baylor Project, Lupita Infante, Rob Bisel, Juan Winans and more.
The festivities launched into high gear with a memorable performance by BMI songwriters Mark Ronson and Andrew Wyatt, accompanied by Matt Sweeney on rhythm guitar and backing vocals, performing an acoustic rendition of their Best Song Written for Visual Media hit, “I’m Just Ken” (from Barbie: The Album). In addition to its GRAMMY nomination, the song, performed by actor Ryan Gosling in the film, has received additional nominations from the Golden Globe Awards, Society of Composers & Lyricists Awards, the Academy Awards and several others. Last month, “I’m Just Ken” won best song at the 29th Critics Choice Awards.
On Friday, February 2nd BMI hosted a special GRAMMY edition of How I Wrote that Song® at The London West Hollywood. BMI affiliates Davido (Timeless Nominated for Best Global Music Album), D’Mille (“On My Mama” nominated for Record of the Year ), and Hit Boy (Producer of the Year nominee), were the featured artists. BMI’s VP, Creative, Catherine Brewton led the conversation as these hit-makers discussed the creative process behind their biggest tracks and GRAMMY nominated songs. Additional attendees included BMI affiliates 2024 GRAMMY nominated Tay Keith, Artist Kallil, rapper Big Hit and more.
