We had the chance to interview several celebrities on the red carpet and here is what they had to say about why it was important for them to attend this event.

Why did you decide to come out and support Children’s Hospital Los Angeles?

“If there’s anything you should support, it’s the future and that’s what children are, right?” says Johnathan Fernandez.   “Incarnate. So it’s really nice to have anything to do with the Children’s Hospital and people that have the children in the forefront of their minds in order to help. It’s a great thing.”

Hayley Orrantia (Erica Goldberg, The Goldbergs)

“Honestly, I don’t know why anyone wouldn’t want to support Children’s Hospital,” says Hayley Orrantia.  “I’m just excited to be a part of something bigger and something that’s doing something really big, we’re actually helping children, our next generation.”

The Goldbergs has been on for four seasons already. What do you feel is the appeal that the show has with viewers?

“The fact that it’s based on a real family I think is so different from a lot of other shows, especially because at the end of every show we play a video from Adam Goldberg’s actual home footage. That’s something that really resonates with people. They can relate to all these different family relationships. It’s nostalgic because it’s set in the ‘80’s. I think a lot of these things just really make people feel comfortable, at home, and it’s relatable.”

Since this is a hockey event, I have to ask you. Who is your favorite hockey team?

Probably the Kings.

“I’ve been working with Children’s Hospital for about ten years now,” says Shawne Merriman, considered to be among the top linebackers in the NFL during his time with the San Diego Chargers.  “The more that celebrities and people with names come out and keep supporting the cause, it brings attention to kids who really need help. It’s been great, hopefully I can do it for another ten years.”

What is your favorite hockey team?

“Well, I’m from Maryland, DC, so the Capitals. If I say anything other than that, they’re going to take away my free tickets when I go back home. But also, my son is six years old, he’s a huge hockey player and loves hockey so if I didn’t come, I was going to hear it from him.”
